According to reports coming out of the Caribbean, the island country of Haiti officially has a new presidential candidate.
After months of rumors surrounding Wyclef Jean, the international recording artist has filed his formal paperwork to throw his hat into the ring and put forth a serious bid at becoming the President of Haiti.
He has his work cut out for him as Haiti is one of the poorest nation’s on the planet. As if that was not enough to deal with, Haiti is still trying to dig itself out of a devastating earthquake that hit last January.
Port Au Prince, the nation’s capital and largest city, currently has more than 200,000 people living in tents, no running water, almost no food and no available jobs to speak of.
Across the country, the quake left almost 2 million people homeless. The roads are in ruin and most hospitals are operating with limited staff.
As with many other political races, odds maker love to weigh in on the outcomes. With a candidate as famous as Jean, combined with the plight of the Haitian people, the next president of Haiti will be a hot topic at online gambling websites and other betting venues.
One popular Internet sportsbook has posted Jean’s odds of reach Haiti’s highest office. Paddypower.com will pay out 11 to 8 if the former hip-hop star.
