The World Series of Poker’s Main Event Day 5 is in the books and the field is without Scotty Nguyen, however two-time champ Johnny Chan is still alive and poised to make a run at another title.
Going into Day 6, the group than once totaled more than 7,200 players is now down to 205 and poker legend Johnny Chan is among the top ten stacks.
The most notable names to be eliminated at the end of Day 5 was former champ Scotty Nguyen. Down the stretch, Nguyen made more than a few costly mistakes, but in the end, his Ace-Jack couldn’t hold up against Mads Wissing’s pocket kings.
Other top players to be sent packing were Jason Mercier, Hoyt Corkins, Brandon Cantu, and Steve Billirakis. The host of ESPN’s “Inside Deal” Bernard Lee bowed out in 410th place.
The chip leader heading into Day 6 is Even Lamprea. The 21-year old Canadian racked-up 3,564,000 chips in a run close to the end of the night to take over the chip lead.
The Mizrachi brothers still have 1/2 of their clan alive in the tournament; while Donny and Eric were eliminated earlier, Micheal and Robert are still in the hunt. Micheal is among the leaders in 30th place and Robert is hanging in nursing a short stake.
The remaining players will be, at the very least, winning $48,847, but none of the players still breathing have lost sight of the $8.9 million top prize.
