Michigan lawmakers approved the Pokagon band of Potawatomi Indians to open two satellite casinos when finalizing a gaming compact to receive a portion of revenue from the tribes Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo.
With state approval in place, and support from local residents looking forward to jobs and the rehabilitation of downtown Hartford, the tribe has provided an architectural rendering of the proposed casino.
The tribe will still need to reach an agreement with Hartford Township but are moving forward with plans to develop the Four Winds North casino just two miles west of the city on tribal land.
The Potawatomi tribal chairman said that the casino will be similar to the New Buffalo facility and will feature 500 slot machines, nine table games and a casual dining restaurant.
“It looks like a smaller Four Winds,” said Matt Harkness GM at Four Winds and Future GM of Four Winds North “It will be a true satellite of the Four Winds in New Buffalo. It has the same sort of interior look, as well as the exterior.”
The casino is expected to employee between 250 and 300 people and open by the fall of 2011.
