Penn National Gaming new they were in for a long road when they agreed to re-locate the site for the planned Columbus casino and began clearing away debris even before voters approved the site change.
However the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency says they had no idea what it would entail to make the General Motors/Delphi Plant a usable site for the Hollywood Casino Columbus. That is until Penn National Gaming supplied a copy of a report identifying soil and groundwater toxins in 81 spots along the site when submitting development plans for the casino.
While Delphi provided Penn National the report when they purchased the site, Penn says that they will need to conduct a new environmental study on the property to determine if there have been any changes and to decide what needs to be done to clean up the land, in addition to plans already underway.
“(It’s) typical when someone is developing a site they need to do their own study because they need to look at it from the view point of what they are going to do with the site,” said Penn National Gaming Spokesman Bob Tenenbaum.
