The latest financial numbers are in and there is an extremely positive outlook for Casinos in the State of Mississippi.
Figures are showing that winnings in Mississippi’s 30 state-licensed casinos in the month of July were more than many experts expected them to be.
According to the Department of Revenue, there was a nearly $34 million increase in winnings at the 30 casinos between June and July. Gamblers lost $224.3 million in July, up from $189.4 million in June.
While this news is encouraging, some feel they may be slightly skewed.
“July is always better than June,” said Scott King, director of research and policy for the Gulf Coast Business Council. “As you climb out of recession, you start seeing some positive signs.”
Along with suffering from the recession, many Gulf Coast casinos are feeling a negative impact from the BP oil spill.
However, the eleven gambling halls along the Gulf of Mexico took in $97.6 million in July, up from $87 million in June.
