With most of the country struggling to make ends meet as the economy in the United States continues to suffer, things may actually be looking up for casinos in Connecticut.
For the first time in more than a year, the state’s two resort casinos are reporting a positive swing in their overall slot machine winnings.
Over the last few years, both the Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino have seen revenue declines affect the gaming experience in each facility; however, the numbers are up for July 2010.
As compared to July of 2009, the Mohegan Sun has reported an increase in winnings of 1.8 percent, and at Foxwoods, slot machines took in 1.3 percent more this past month.
The numbers are encouraging, but explainable.
The casinos had an extra Saturday this July compared to 2009 to raise revenues, which could have accounted for some of the increase.
Foxwoods is cautiously optimistic.
“While we’re pleased with July’s results, it appears the current economic conditions will continue to pose challenges to our business over the coming months,” said casino officials.
