Casinos all through Pennsylvania are enjoying the overwhelming demand for table games launched this month, but Philadelphia’s casino is excited over slot machines.
The long awaited SugarHouse Casino took delivery of its first 100 slot machines this morning. The machines arrived in a sealed truck early this morning and Gaming Control Board officials were on hand to oversee the delivery and ensure that the machines were not tampered with before being installed.
The SugarHouse Casino, still under construction, will be Pennsylvania’s tenth casino to open but the first for Philadelphia. Developers fought legal hurdles for the past three years to gain approval from the city and overcome strong opposition encountered by residents opposed to gambling.
The SugarHouse is expected to open in late September with 1,602 slot machines and 40 table games.
Philadelphia’s second casino licensed to Foxwoods is still trying to overcome financial obstacles and has not yet broken ground.
