D’Iberville Mississippi is one step closer to bringing a second casino to its borders now that state Legislatures have approved a measure that would allow a private developer to lease city owned land.
While the first attempt to pass the bill that authorized long term land leases was killed by the Senate, the second House version won Senate approval on Friday with a 27 to 13 vote.
Under current laws, state approval was needed to lease city land. Now that the lease issues have been passed, D’Iberville can move forward on four substantial projects that will revitalize the city.
One of those projects is the $225 million Oyster Bay Casino that also won approval from the state’s Gaming Commission on Thursday.
The Oyster Bay project will focus on the area’s history and will include dramatic architecture resembling fishing boats. The 65,000 square foot casino will be the second in the D’Iberville but is expected to bring 2,000 jobs and an estimated $8 million to the state and local governments.
The casino will feature 1,000 slot machines and 24 table games.
