Victoryland Casino will have to continue to deprive Alabama gamblers from playing the electronic bingo games they voted into law, indefinitely.
Earlier this summer the racetrack had shut down bingo operations because of the potential threat of a raid by the Governor’s task force on illegal gambling.
Victoryland and Alabama’s governor have been entangled in legal disputes for several months after the task force attempted to raid the casino for operating illegal slot machines. Victoryland was the last non-Indian casino in operation after the task force shut down all other casinos in the state on similar complaints.
Local officials blocked the raid earlier this year by obtaining a restraining order on the grounds that the task force must have permission from local police and officials; however that restraining order has now been removed.
Circuit Judge Tom Young had to remove the order since the state Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal on their ruling last month that allowed the task force to operate in Macon County.
Task Force Commander, John Tyson says he will continue to “enforce gambling laws”.
