What could be Ohio’s first casino is expected to break ground within the next month.
Penn National Gaming won the right to develop casinos in both Columbus and Toledo following a state wide vote last year authorizing four casinos throughout the state.
Penn National has also recently won unanimous approval from the Toledo Planning Commission to move forward with construction plans.
Penn has chosen a site along Interstate 75 just outside of the downtown district to house the $250 million Hollywood Casino expected to be between 218,000 and 227,000 square feet and open in early 2012.
“We’re very grateful to the plan commission for the unanimous decision which is a giant step forward in terms of getting under way with construction. We will seek building permits with hope of breaking ground within 30 days,” said Eric Schippers senior vice president of public affairs for Penn National Gaming.
Construction on the casino is expected to create 2,000 construction jobs and approximately 1,200 permanent jobs once the casino opens.
