A little over a week ago, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) launched the first, completely legal, government-sanctioned, online casino in North America. The innovative Canadian province was able to win the Internet gambling race with the United States still debating the issue in Congress.
But, at what cost? Within hours of the first hands of poker being dealt, the site powered by PlayNow.com, crashed.
According to government officials, they have no idea when the website will be up and running again.
Critics feel that the BCLC moved too fast and rushed into launching the site. Many think that the delay in re-opening the site points toward bigger problems than were originally disclosed.
The lottery immediately blamed the site’s breakdown on a high volume of users as they were overwhelmed with the amount of online traffic on the website.
However, they later admitted to security glitches that caused some players to be logged in to incorrect accounts. Some players even gambled with other users’ credit cards, while others were able to view personal information that was not there own.
