According to the New York State Lottery Division, three groups have submitted bids for a slot machine contract at Aqueduct Racetrack.
The lottery says that the bidders are Genting New York, LLC, Penn National and a group consisting of SL Green, Hard Rock International, and Clairvest Group Inc.
Aqueduct in Queens, is considered as an extremely lucrative market with two million people in close proximity to the track.
However, the uncertainty surrounding the possibility of a Las Vegas-style Indian casino nearby being constructed near by and a $300 million upfront payment has prompted other prospective bidders to abandon their plans in the past.
Some feel that Aqueduct could generate as much as $800 million per year in revenue. That is almost double the take its closest would-be competition, the Empire City Casino in Yonkers. Empire is currently the state’s most lucrative electronic slot machine parlor.
Many analysts estimate that Aqueduct could generate more than $1 million a day in tax revenue for New York.
