With the economy in New Jersey getting weaker and weaker everyday, the gambling industry in the state is trying to stay afloat as it continues to see profits fall.
Atlantic City, once considered the casino mecca of the East Coast, is in the midst of what seems like an economic bottomless pit. The city, nicknamed “America’s Favorite Playground,” is looking more like a “Sandlot” these days as casino industry in neighboring state’s like Pennsylvania grows.
Even lawmakers are left scratching their heads as they try to find a way to bring New Jersey back to near the forefront of gambling in the U.S.
Along with A.C., the horse racing industry is mired in hard times as well.
Governor Chris Christie’s plan to have more state control over the casinos in Atlantic City and sell-off or close the Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth Park has some legislators up in arms.
Opponents of the governor plan to let their voices be heard at this weekend’s gaming summit at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
