Although Massachusetts expanding gambling bill has not materialized yet, Mohegan Sun says that they are in talks to purchase property for a casino.
Mohegan Sun has already entered into a long term lease with Northeast Realty on a 150 acre site however the current write up in the stalled legislation to allow three casinos in the state requires potential operators to own the land.
Mohegan Sun tribal gaming authority said that the current 50 year lease would not qualify as owning the property so they have entered into preliminary talks about taking over the land.
“We’re too far into this. We’re committed to this project as I’m sure our landlord is. I’m sure the two parties will work something out,” said Paul I. Brody, the vice president of development for Mohegan Sun.
The tribe has proposed bringing a $600 million gaming complex to Palmer with 3,000 slot machines, 100 table games, 25 poker tables, 10 restaurants, a 600 room hotel and 20,000-square-feet of retail space.
While Mohegan Sun is committed to the site until 2058, they will not finalize any agreement to purchase the land unless Legislatures pass the measure.
