Despite an independent study conducted earlier this year by Ameristar Casinos which showed a gaming operation in Cape Girardeau was the best candidate for Missouri’s final license, only one application was submitted to the board for the area.
Final casino applications were due to Missouri regulators on September 1, and although there are five contenders, Isle of Capri Casinos is the only proposal for Cape Girardeau.
St. Louis Capital Partners told Cape Girardeau officials late in the day Wednesday that they would not be submitting an application, likely because City Council members were backing Isle of Capri Casinos $125 million proposal.
“We’re very pleased to be partners with Isle of Capri,” Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger said. “I think they will give us an outstanding chance to get the license.”
The five thousand page application detailing everything from the company’s history and financial stability to details and drawings of the proposed complex were submitted in time along with the $50,000 application fee.
Cape Girardeau now has until October 1 to submit their portion of the application which will include economic development plans, revenue sharing plans and casino endorsements.
Cape Girardeau Voters will decide at the ballot in November if they support the casino.
