As the World Series of Poker pushes on, Event number 49 winner Michael Linn takes home one of the largest first-place prizes in the history of the tournament.
His $609,493 victory in the $1,500 no-limit hold’em event marks Linn’s first WSOP gold bracelet of his young career.
Although Linn is a relative newcomer to the sport, he comes from expert lineage. Linn is the nephew of of three-time bracelet winner Barry Greenstein.
Greenstein is known for his generosity as he donates his profit from tournament winnings to charity, earning him the nickname, “the Robin Hood of Poker.”
Linn, a 22 year old up and comer in the game, is a student at Cal Polytechnic. He joked after his win, saying that he was, “trying to quit poker to stay in school.”
This victory for Linn is his third cash at the World Series of Poker, but first of 2010. Last year he brought in nearly $40,000 from cashes at two events.
At the final table, Linn outlasted Taylor Larkin.
Larkin’s second place finish netted him a more than $375,000 and his first WSOP cash.
