Maryland lawmakers have expressed concern that Penn National Gaming does not have a clear plan in mind for reaching the state’s minority inclusion goal of 25% for the Hollywood Casino Perryville.
The casino is scheduled to open in late September and according to the state’s reports, Penn National Gaming has only contracted 18% of minorities to work on the $57 million project.
Eric Schippers, a spokesman for Penn National said that the state is using numbers that have not been updated and so far they have reached 22%, but also added that the goal would have been met sooner if they were not limited on the selection of a software provider for the 1,500 slot machines that will be the first to go online in the state.
Schippers noted that the gaming facility has not been completed and that they are “still working very aggressively to meet the goal.” although they only have a few weeks to wrap things up to make the scheduled opening date.
