There was once a time when gamblers on the east coast of the United States had just two casino gaming options; hop on a plane bound for Las Vegas or take a ride to Atlantic City.
Now the casino boom has seen full Vegas-style casino action all across the eastern seaboard, but some states are still behind the times.
While Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia expanded their gambling options, Maryland continues to battle delays and legal issues before they can even get slot-only parlors off the ground.
Since states like West Virginia expanded to table games, they have seen a huge increase in business. Even with the nation mired in an economic downturn, their casinos are seeing more and more gamblers come to play.
Table games are even boosting revenue on slots. Delaware Park is reporting an increase this month in profits from slots.
“It would be the first month in 25 months that slots revenue is up year over year,” said Andrew Gentile, the casino’s chief operating officer. “Table games have brought a lot of energy back to the slots floor.”
With all the money being made by it’s neighbors on casinos and table games, Maryland needs to find a way get past their issues.
