Las Vegas Sands has won the right to appeal a 2008 court ruling that granted Hong Kong businessman Richard Suen approximately $60 million for doing “virtually nothing” to help Sands enter the MSAR gaming market.
The Nevada Supreme Court heard from attorneys this week to determine if Las Vegas Sands had cause to overturn a ruling issued by a jury in the Clark County District court two years ago and after only about an hour the seven Supreme Court Justices decided to allow the appeal to continue.
Sands Attorney said that there was no evidence that meetings Suen had arranged between Las Vegas Sands executives and the Chinese Government had anything to do with them wining a casino license in Macau and that the lower court had “inferred the existence of that evidence”.
The claim was built on one conjecture, on top of another conjecture and on a third conjecture.” Sands attorney David Frederick told the court.
A Lawyer involved in the case said it could take up to four months for a decision to be reached.
