Following the announcement that Harrah’s Entertainment was withdrawing its interest in developing a casino in Sumner County, the Kansas Lottery Commission moves the remaining two bidders forward.
Yesterday the Lottery approved conditional contracts with both Peninsula Gaming Partners LLC and Global Gaming KS LLC to develop and operate a state owned casino in the South Central Zone.
The contracts will only be finalized once local planning and zoning commissions have granted approval for the proposed casino sites.
The Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board is expecting contracts to be finalized by mid October at which time the seven member panel will determine which project will be chosen for development.
Peninsula Gaming Partners is proposing a 100,000 square foot casino with 1,310 slot machines and a 150 room hotel to be developed off of the Kansas Turnpike at the Mulvane exit while Global Gaming is proposing a 260,000 square foot facility off of the Wellington exit that will include 1,300 slot machines and Performance Theater. Both proposals say their venues could be open within 24 months.
