Competition from the Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma planning to build a casino in Park City has left Sumner County without any potential developers.
While the Boot Hill Casino and Resort in Dodge City successfully opened in December and the Hollywood Kansas Speedway Casino in Wyandotte County broke ground in May, the deadline for the third license in the south central zone is expected to close on July 22 without any potential bidders.
Harrah’s Entertainment, MGM Mirage and Foxwoods, Marvel Gaming and Global Gaming Solutions of Ada, Okla., a subsidiary of the Chickasaw Nation have all expressed interest in building and managing the state owned casino, however all withdrew not willing to invest $225 million to compete with a neighboring tribal casino.
Without any pending applications the Kansas Lottery Commission is considering extending the deadline on round three of the process. The seven member panel will meet later this week to discuss the next steps.
