According to reports, Daryl W. Price of American Harness Tracks Inc. would like to move forward on a plan to construct a harness racetrack and casino near Johnstown, Pa.
Price, a businessman and stable owner, plans to submit an application for a license from the Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission if the commission does not give him the license held by Centaur LLC.
Centaur is in bankruptcy and is currently trying to unload the rights to build Valley View Downs, a proposed track north of Pittsburgh.
Price and his investors are ready to put up $200 million toward the proposed project. He feels that it would create nearly 1,500 permanent jobs and almost 1,200 more during construction.
“We think we have a good plan, in a good location, in an area that needs the jobs and needs tourism,” said Price.
With Price looking forward, the commission is not as optimistic.
According to harness commission spokesman Justin Fleming, currently, “there is no harness racing license available for that group to pursue.”
And the commission does not see a resolution of the issue of the rights to Centaur’s license any time soon.
