According to MLB sources, Detroit Tigers outfielder/DH Johnny Damon may be on his way back to the Boston Red Sox.
Damon played for the Red Sox from 2002 until leaving for New York after the 2005 season. He may not be so sure he wants to go back.
“It’s probably as tough of a decision for me to make right now as it was for me to leave Boston for New York,” said Damon. ”It’s something that, fortunately, we have some time to think about.”
He went on to say that he loves playing in Detroit and he really enjoys his teammates. However, he also said that having another opportunity to play for Terry Francona would be something he will really need to think about.
Damon, who turns 37 in November is hitting .270 with seven home runs and 40 RBIs. He hit .364 for the Yankees in the World Series last year.
For the Red Sox, the addition of Damon makes a lot of sense right now. With Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Cameron both out for the season, picking up some depth in the outfield is key for a run at the playoffs.
