According to reports, Harrah’s Entertainment has dropped out of the race to build a state-owned casino in Sumner County, Kansas.
In a prepared statement, Harrah’s Sumner Investment Company officials said, “After careful consideration and discussion with the Kansas Lottery Commission, Harrah’s has decided to withdraw its proposal for a casino in the South Central Gaming Zone.”
Before today, three companies had hoped to develop a casino south of Wichita. The Harrah’s move now leaves just Peninsula Gaming Partners and Global Gaming Kansas with proposals on the table.
The decision to pull-out came just hours before the Mulvane City Council was set to vote on whether to endorse the project and send it on to state officials.
With just two applicant proposals left for consideration, the Kansas Lottery Commission will choose from plans that could bring casino gaming to Mulvane or Wellington.
Peninsula Gaming Partners is set for the Mulvane project while Global Gaming is looking at Wellington for their proposed site.
