Kansas Lottery Officials have received three proposals during its third round of bidding for a state owned casino in the south central zone with all three developers settling on locations in Sumner County.
Harrah’s Entertainment and partner Sumner Resorts pulled their application in the first round of bidding in 2008 and Foxwoods Development Co. and partner Lakes Entertainment withdrew their application in the second round last April.
Harrah’s Entertainment has again stepped up this time without a partner. Harrah’s said they would build a 100 room hotel, multiple restaurants, a sports bar, retail space and a 15,000 square foot casino called Harrah’s Kansas at one of two locations in Mulvane. Their plans also include possible expansions to add additional hotel rooms, golf course, water park, tennis facility and an RV park.
Other bidders include Peninsula Gaming Partner with a Kansas Star Casino, Hotel and Event Center at the Kansas Turnpike’s Mulvane exit and Global Gaming with plans to build a yet unknown named casino at the Wellington exit.
The bidders will give presentations to Sumner County Commissioners in August , and the Lottery Division will have until October 20 to provide final applications and negotiated contracts to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board who will make the final decision and forward their choice to the Kansas Racing & Gaming Commission before the end of the year.
