Alabama Governor Bob Riley’s gambling task force is at it again.
Just hours after a circuit judge issued orders for the raid on the Greenetrack Casino to be stopped, Task Force Commander John Tyson got the Alabama Supreme Court to strike down the orders of Circuit Judge Eddie Hardaway.
Without any regard for the hard working individuals employed as these kind of establishments, Riley has continue to shut them down, one after another.
With the action against Greenetrack, the only non-Indian casino left still standing in the state is Victoryland in Macon County. If Riley could shut down the Indians, he would do that as well, however they are protected by the federal government.
He is powerless to go after them.
As far as the governor’s view on Victoryland, Riley’s task force is challenging a ruling by a judge in Macon County as well. Victoryland is the state’s largest, housing more than 6,000 bingo machines.
In this time of global recession and rising unemployment, apparently, Riley feels his state can afford to lose more jobs and can do without the taxable revenue that these bingo halls provide.
