Considering the Greenbrier Resort has only opened casino operations seven weeks ago, reports from the West Virginia Lottery Commission indicates a huge success.
Since its grand opening on July 2, the casino has brought in more than $891,000 in gaming revenue, a total which would be even higher if gamblers winnings hadn’t exceeded the house in the month of July.
The 102,000 square foot underground casino at the historic Greenbrier Resort pulled in $377,661 in revenue last week alone. In all, the casino has earned $694,000 from table game operations and $196,692 from video slot machines and video poker terminals, earning $32,151 last week.
From the overall gaming proceeds the state has received $564,655.
“We really think that this is on par or better than any other offering in the country for a casino,” Todd Fishon, director of casino operations said. “We expect continued growth in casino revenue.”
The Greenbrier was bought out of bankruptcy in 2009 by Jim Justice who embarked on the casino as a way to return profitability to the resort. Gambling is only offered to guest and attendees of special events.
