Despite the tension between Sheldon Adelson and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Tuesday’s announcement that the annual Global Gaming Expo would be moved was received well.
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President Rossi Ralenkotter said that they were happy that the convention would stay in town and noted that the move had little to do with space and more to do with timing.
However American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf said it was a little of both.
Fahrenkopf said that casino operators and gaming manufactures had requested an earlier event so they would have time to work new contracts into their budgets and was hopeful that the new home and new date would help.
The G2E will hold its eleventh annual show at the Sands Expo Center in October 2011.
Las Vegas Sands President Michael Leven said that they were chosen since they had availability for the earlier dates and had more room that would allow the Expo to allow smaller exhibitors to also take place.
A three year contract has been signed between the parties.
