It has been just five short years since Hurricane Katrina tore apart the Gulf Coast of the United States, virtually destroying the city of New Orleans. Now forecasters are predicting another busy storm season for 2010.
Many casinos will be cashing in.
In the Atlantic Ocean, the 2010 Hurricane Season began on June 1st and won’t officially end until the end of November and the bets are flying in as this year has already proven to be deadly.
Just this past Wednesday, Hurricane Alex hit Mexico’s Gulf Coast as a Category 2 storm and local authorities have confirmed six deaths.
In the Gambling world, natural disasters and so-called “acts of god” create a huge amount of business for online casinos and bookmakers. In the case of hurricanes, there are bets to be made on many aspects of pending storms.
Bettors can lay their money down on everything from; the total number of storms that will be named, to the strongest storm of the season to be recorded.
In fact, even with data still being analysed and unconfirmed reports as to Alex’s maximum wind speeds, some Internet based bookmakers are saying that the odds that this past storm will be the season’s strongest are 33 to 1.
Some online casinos will even payout 100 to 1 if Alex turns out to be the last named storm of the season.
