A Rancho Cordova, California couple that was convicted of felony child abuse after leaving their 7 week-old baby in the car while gambling was sentenced to 60 days earlier this week.
Thuan Huy Nguyen and Panfila Phu Phan, both 27, left the infant in their vehicle in a casino parking garage for about two-and-a-half hours before a security guard discovered and rescued the child.
The baby, now six months old, is in the custody of its grandmother. Nguyen and Phan can get back their child only after the completion of their sentence and an OK come through from Child Protective Services.
In a related story, another parent was caught leaving his child unattended in a casino parking lot in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
Thirty-four year old, Paul Vargas left his two children, seven and twelve, in his car while gambling at Bensalem’s Parx Casino. Vargas is the sixth parent caught this summer leaving children in a vehicle while playing the slots or table games at this casino.
Vargas is being held in lieu of bail and the kid were released into the custody of their grandparents.
