With November’s election right around the corner, developer Cordish Cos. has ramped up a marketing campaign to help gain voters support to develop Maryland’s largest slot parlor.
The ballot issue is aimed at stopping a 4,750 slot machine casino at the Arundel Mills Mall. Opponents of the casino, No Slots at the Mall, have already begun running television ads influencing voters to reject the measure that will rezone the site.
In December County Council members gave their approval to rezone the site which sparked the controversy as voters had assumed that the slot casino would be developed at Laurel Park when voting to allow a casino in Arundel County in 2008.
According to Cordish Cos’s website they have gained support of several citizens, community organization, business owners, local unions and the Chambers of Commerce.
Cordish Cos’s ads will focus on the creation of jobs and the boost to city, county and state revenues.
