For the first time in twelve years, thousands of slot machines at the Horseshoe Casino in southern Indiana malfunctioned at once.
Ciaos erupted when gamblers at the casino tried to cash out winnings on over 2,000 slot machines available on the four floors of the riverboat casino. The slot machines that usually print vouchers to be paid out at the cage malfunctioned due to a system wide computer glitch.
Staff members had to make their way around the gaming floor to open the machines and payout winnings manually while gamblers waited in excess up to three hours.
“That hasn’t been done for years,” said a casino spokesperson “I’m sure that everyone had to review the procedures for that pretty quickly.”
The casino had to call in all of their slot technicians to help fix the problem.
The Indiana Gaming Commission said this is the first time that such a “significant malfunction” has occurred since the casino opened in 1998.
