While a special committee attempts to reach a compromise between the House and Senate bills aimed at expanding gambling in the state of Massachusetts, several casino operators have begun to express interest.
According to Paul P. Nicolai, a Springfield lawyer, who holds an option on nearly 115 acres of land in Charlton, four casino developers have expressed interest in purchasing the property for casino development, should the area fall into one of the three zones in the pending legislation.
However Nicolai said that only two have agreed to allow their interest to be disclosed, Penn National Gaming and the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Eric Schippers, senior vice president of public affairs for Penn National Gaming said “We have been looking all over, essentially because we do not know what the final legislation will be. We have not circled any one property on the map.”
Gary E. Bitner, a spokesman for the Seminole Tribe of Florida, said “All I can tell you, generally, is the Seminole Tribe considers, and its gaming division, regularly considers locations for gaming and other markets, but we don’t ever discuss those publicly.”
