Casino Celebration, an operator vying for Missouri’s final gaming license has entered into an agreement with Great Rivers Greenway, a non-profit organization that develops local parks and bikeways.
Under the terms of the agreement, if Casino Celebration is approved by the state to develop a St. Louis casino, the developer will provide funding on improvements to the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge and trailheads in exchange for 8 acres of land owned by GRG to be used as part of the $115 million casino property.
The major funding agreed to include building parking lots with lighting and 24 hour security and public restrooms as well as coordinating public events in the area.
If Casino Celebration does not win the coveted license they have agreed to sell GRG the 11.8 acres of land now reserved for the casino.
Susan Trautman, Great Rivers’ executive director says win or lose St. Louis residents will be guaranteed public access to the riverfront.
