Isle of Capri Casinos and St. Louis Capital Partners meet with Cape Girardeau City Council members in a special meeting this week in an attempt to gain the city’s endorsement for the remaining Missouri casino license.
The Missouri Gaming Commission is expected to choose an operator this fall, for the remaining casino license that came available when Pinnacle Entertainment closed the aging President Casino in St. Louis last month.
Isle of Capri officials discussed their plans to build a casino along North Main Street that could include up to 1,200 gaming positions and a 750 seat event center, while St. Louis Capital Partners only disclosed that they were looking at building at the Standley Batch Systems Inc. property or the Brenda Kay Construction Inc. property.
The city has not set a time frame for choosing an operator to support, however applications from at least five communities are expected in front of state regulators by September 1.
Cape Girardeau citizens opposing a casino in the area have also begun a petition drive aimed at forcing another vote to ensure that residents are still open to a casino.
