A south Korean developer is looking to build Cambodia’s largest casino near the Angkor Wat temples that attracts more than two million tourist a year.
Intercity Group was awarded a casino license in 2008 to develop a $400 million family oriented integrated resort complex to increase tourism. Developers will break ground in October and is expected to complete the first phases of the Bellus Angkor Resort & City in early 2012.
The first phase of the resort will include the region’s largest casino, three hotels, three golf courses, shopping and a water park. Phase two will include a convention center, indoor theme park and other entertainment as well as residential units.
The Cambodian government approved the major resort in an attempt to lure high rollers from Macau and Singapore, where gambling has grown quickly.
James Cho, Vice President of Intercity, had said that representatives from both Harrah’s Entertainment and MGM Resorts International has visited the site and are among potential investors interested in operation management deals.
