As Massachusetts lawmakers continue to reach a compromise on legislation approving gambling in the Bay State, Wynn Resorts takes a shine to South Boston’s waterfront.
Casino mogul Steve Wynn told analysts during a conference call early this year that “Our next project will undoubtedly be in China, unless we get involved in Massachusetts”.
Involved they are. Development Associates LLC, a Wynn subsidiary paid ML Strategies, a Boston lobbyist almost $400,000 and hired Howell Communications, a public relations firm to help advance Wynn’s interest in developing a casino in the state.
While Wynn has not made a casino proposal in the state public knowledge, he may be up against at least two other developers.
Suffolk Downs has proposed to develop a $600 million resort casino at the racetrack that would include 5,000 slot machines, 200 table games, restaurants, retail outlets and a hotel.
Warner Gaming has also proposed developing a casino, hotel, restaurants and nightlife offerings in Milford.
