With Philadelphia’s SugarHouse Casino getting set to open its doors on September 23rd, Atlantic City gambling halls are bracing themselves for even more competition from their neighbors.
The City of Brotherly Love’s new gaming facility along the Delaware River will mean even more competition from the Pennsylvania gambling market.
Since the first casino opened in the Keystone State about four years ago, A. C. gaming revenue has been taken a nosedive.
The opening of the SugarHouse will give Atlantic City a new rival to deal with that is less than an hour drive away.
SugarHouse will have 1,600 slot machines and 40 gaming tables. A fare cry from the lavish resort style gaming facilities on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.
However, it is still expected to have an impact.
“We are a small property,” said SugarHouse General Manager Wendy Hamilton. “We like to say small, but mighty.”
