According to the Kansas State Lottery Commission, they are still looking for a developer to step-up and build a casino in Sumner County.
Apparently, the commission voted on Wednesday to extent the July 22nd deadline if no applications were received by next Thursday. The vote came even as they said that they expected to have at least one, possibly two, by that date.
The new rules state that if an application has not been received by the 22nd, the deadline would automatically extend to October 28th.
In most places, casino builders are lining up to develop new casinos, however in Kansas this is not the case.
The lottery commission is also looking for someone to build casinos that have been approved by the state’s 2007 Gambling Expansion Act. They also voted to extend the deadline to receive applications for proposed casinos in Crawford and Cherokee counties.
The previous deadline to receive applications for these two areas was July 15th, however, with no applications having been submitted, the deadline was extended until October 21st.
In the past, casino giants like MGM and Harrah’s have expressed interest in moving forward with such projects in Kansas. However they both refused to put up a hefty $225 million investment, because of the threat of competition from nearby tribal casinos.
